democrats make better lovers: who ever heard of a good piece of elephant?

Sep 17, 2004 10:30

I should say this: I can't possibly take credit for brilliance of the subject title because it was taken from a University of Michigan College Democrats t-shirt I bought on Monday. I like the "elephant" joke, though. I know and appreciate that UM is a highly politicized campus, with many politically intune and active students. But, is it wrong ( Read more... )

If you make it friends-only then I won't be able to read it unless I what, open up my own account..how long does that take, do you know? and how frequently do I have to like log in before the account dies on me?
I went to a swing dancing class last night, -- really cool. Are you going to get involved w/ a newspaper at UM?

oooh, i went swing dancing last night, too! it was fantastic. our swing club is very unofficial here -- meaning we might meet every two or three weeks -- but we learned the basics and a couple of cool turns and things, and then they just sort of let us go. some people left right when we were done, and some of us just stayed behind and freestyled, and it was ridiculous much fun.

Thanks for your random swing dancing comments, Brenna! :)
And, EO, I don't think I'll be switching over to completely friends-only any time soon. You should get a livejournal anyway; I'm pretty sure you don't have to post in it in a certain time period or however often. Let me know if you do!

Why get a livejournal if I'm not going to post in it and you're not going to make yours freinds-only.

Nothing said on the internet disappears
and one never knows who's reading what one writes.

Denny, Denny, Denny.

My two cents...

"As of late, I've been trying to convince undecided students to register and vote on my behalf for John Kerry. I haven't been very successful, but we still have a while."

Do you recognize how selfish that sounds?

Please, for the sake of our nation, encourage people to use THEIR voice and vote for whomever they feel is right, not to USE YOUR voice to vote for Kerry.

I, for one, am glad you have been unsuccessful. Not because I do not support Kerry, but because I do support our right as citizens to make our own choices. What if your persuasion to vote for Mr. Kerry is the only piece of information that your uninformed potential voter receives? That is just as dangerous as those "citizens [who] will go out on November 2 and merely vote on name-recognition without having thought twice about the issues."

As selfish as it may sound to you, I still think it's absolutely ridiculous that I've been disenfranchised merely because I'm three weeks too young. And, for your information, I'll be supporting our citizens' right to make their own choices by helping people register to vote tomorrow in Mosher-Jordan. It's not like I'm randomly going up to people and talking politics to them. I agree that it's very important--essential--for members of a democracy to voice their opinion, but if they're going to be apathetic about it and not care, then they might as well vote on my behalf because I have made a choice. I'm not asking 500 people to go out and vote for Kerry on my behalf--only one.
Besides, "Not because I do not support Kerry", last time I checked, you were voting Bush Nov. 2...so perhaps your comments are fairly biased?
I know these comments will come back and hurt me if I ever decide to run for public office...

Friends only livejournal: i'm kind of confused as to how this would work... if you don't want some people to read it then maybe you could have a journal and gave no one the address. unless you wanted response in which case you could always send out a massive email!?!

Hope to see you next weekend!

P.S. three midterms---isn't that kind of an oxymoron??!

Yeah, tell the three midterms thing to Professor Malone; she seems to enjoy talking about them quite often, too...
See you this weekend! :)

I'm not voting for or against it, because since I'm on your friends list anyway it really doesn't concern me. But here's my two cents anyway. I think it would work if you want it, because people who want to read your livejournal can make an accout fairly easily. It doesn't cost anything, and you don't ever have to update it; you just create the name and I don't think it ever gets deactivated. Alternatively, you could make only certain posts friends-only, and everyone else could still read about your daily life.

Thanks for your advice...I'll definitely take it into consideration. I'm beginning to like this friends-only versus public posts idea.

On the "friends-only or no?" issue, I'd go with making only certain posts friends-only, like I've been doing. That way, non-LJ friends are still pretty much in the loop, but you still have the security of knowing that anything in your restricted posts isn't going to be read by anyone who happens upon your LJ.
