Yes. I don't have any scars like that. All of mine are hidden.

They respect your pain because they can see it. When they smile at you and talk about your scars it's because they're glad it wasn't them who almost died. They want to be your friend to show themselves that they're not scared of the places you've been.

They touch you because you're like knocking on wood. If they treat you with reverence they believe that they'll be kept safe from the pain themselves. They're scared of your scars but they respect them. It's a pagan idolatry.
