I bought the Gateway in March. I didn't have an additional 400 bucks to blow on some service plan, especially after I purchased an extended warranty. Last night, I put the laptop to sleep, closed the cover, and I heard a crunch. The screen shattered inside. The mercury an plasma shit is all over the place in there. Try to find a number for their corporate offices. Don't call the customer service phone monkeys; they're useless. Your computer should be warrantied for at least a year. Call the corporate offices and just basically demand to speak to someone. Or, you could file a complaint with the BBB. Or, do a google search for "gateway sucks" or "gateway customer service" and see if you get a number for their corporate offices that way. That's about what we did to get our Compaq replaced.

In the future, stay far away from Gateway, Compaq and HP. Get a Dell. Or a Mac.

My next big one is a Power Book. Since they came out with Microsoft for Macs I don't need another PC. After my online chat with their customer service, I googled gateway sucks (since I remembered you guys getting farther that way) and found out that I might just have resolved the problem, but there were several complaints after the fact, so we shall see. I am just hoping I don't end up the BIG loser in all of this. Thanks.
