oh! the pain was when the abscessed molar/wisdom tooth combo was still in my head, it's not current. but i'll keep flouride and extra cleanings in mind, especially going to the local university for a cheaper dental alternative. my current dentist does accept payment plans because we've been with the clinic for so long, but the costs even spread out are no match for insurance through an employer. thanks s much hon. :)
wow, you poor thing. what arseholes those people at the hospital sounded like. jeeez. anyway, the best advice i can give, as someone who obsesses over her teeth while simultaneously being quite lazy about them (i'm full of contradictions), is to keep going with the daily brush/floss/mouthwash. You need all three to get rid of as much bacteria as possible, and make sure it's a mouthwash with alcohol in it because the non-alcoholic ones are rubbish. tooth decay is caused by bacteria in the mouth (that crop up no matter how much or what you're eating, which is why your mouth feels dirty in the morning even if you haven't eaten anything), and maintaining a clean environment in there is the best you can do for them. but you definitely need some dental work done. That much is clear. I'm guessing you're american, and i've heard about how horrible it is trying to get decent medical treatment over there, but try and investigate possible options. Healthy teeth are something many of us take for granted.
i'm canadian, but even in canada the dental oes not fall under health care, so it is not covered unfortunately.
i didn't know that about the mouthwash though. i thought the ones with alcohol in them would do more damage than good. guess i'll go back to listerine.. i like the minty fresh feeling after a lot better anyways. :p
haha, no worries. well, people talk about alcohol-containing mouthwashes possibly giving people mouth cancer, but that's honestly one of the most ridiculous things to have ever been talked about. Considering how long the mouthwash stays in the mouth, and the fact that you don't swallow it, and how it's only people who abuse alcohol for decades that get mouth cancer as a result of alcohol abuse... yeah. i mean, it's up to you. but in my opinion the mouthwashes without alcohol in them are rubbish.
Fluoride and xylitol are two substances that are known to help with keeping your teeth healthy.. try to find those and use at least the xylitol chewing gum / mints after every time you eat.
yes i've read in your journal a few times some dental issues. in and amongst cat tales. :p
i'm very aware to the future of my teeth, whether it be crowns or surgery or.. whatever, it's a little disheartening but i've accepted that i can't go back fo a magical quick fix; what's done is done, i just need to do what i can in the future to salvage my remaining good teefs and fix the rest of the lot that need it.
though can i ask what's so fab about an electric toothbrush? i ha been avoiding them unde the paranoia that they may be too rough for teeth with a lot of enamel wear.
