Thank you so much for all your advice. It reassured me a great deal.
I went to see her yesterday and told her (edited) bits of how it was/is for me, and that I understand and that she can talk to me about anything at any time.

I'm only briefly checking lj, and I noticed this - you - and I remembered your post, and my similar situation with an older neice who luckily, is ok, and I just wanted you to know I'm thinking of her and her family and you and I'm so very sad to hear this.
