When George W. Bush was elected, I was a senior in college. I had read the 4 Harry Potter books that summer. I had never read Lord of the Rings and had no plans to do so. It's weird, but today I'm thinking of Bush's eight years in those personal, small, insignificant terms instead of in terms like Iraq, Katrina, the economy, 9/11, etc. When I ( Read more... )

I had just graduated high school and was starting my first semester of college. I had just broken up with my high school boyfriend (my now HUSBAND!) and started writing fanfic!

I thought that was the case... but I was distracted by thinking about W and how old I am. When I graduated from high school his father was president.

It's weird, that. How it doesn't feel like that long ago in terms of Big Stuff that's happened, but yeah...

I was 18, had just dropped out of high school (I think, or if I dropped out later...), stayed up all night to follow the election and was pissed when Bush won, heh. My whole Harry Potter experience fits snugly within Bush's presidency. Now THAT is weird. Me getting into fandom feels like a much longer time ago than Bush's election.

I was in the 6th or 7nth grade (jeez), and pretty darn happy that he'd won.
Though he didn't turn out to be Best President Ever, I still feel sorry for him. It must really hurt to know that you're that unpopular. And maybe he deserves that, but it's our fault for electing him at all, right? I feel even worse for Laura Bush - having to stand by your man (retarded baby that he is) and fource yourself to smile, knowing that everyone seems to hate him. She's a good woman, I gotta respect her for that.
