15 Years

Thank you to my nameless supporter for your comment in my previous LiveJournal post. I am glad that you think my LJ's rock. I would give you a five if I knew who you were. Amber (xtangledechox), Ellie, Rachel, John, and Jannan all deserve a debt of gratitude from me for their input regarding my last Xanga post, "Outcomes." Amber, you're a great friend. Jannan, trust me, as I begin to see noticeable improvement, some before, during, and after pictures will be displayed. Ellie, it's a ton of fun communicating with you so much.

Rachel and John and everybody else: I finally found out that I was hired this morning!

However, a more pressing issue is on my mind now.

As my younger brother, Elliot, has commemorated dutifully last year and prior, yesterday marked the 15th anniversary that our Grammy was slain. Although I cannot remember the book I was reading at the time, I distinctly remember when Elliot barged into my room in tears, informing me that Grammy was murdered.

Grammy, as devout a Roman Catholic as they come, had never had a chance to see me be an altar server. I had just started that summer of 1991, and my mother was sure to send her a picture of me in cassock and surplice. However, I did serve at her funeral Mass, and afterward my grandfather approached my mother and us after Mass. Since he and my mother do not get along, the only time I had ever met him up until the funeral this past July was then and there. I had always hoped that he had had an opportunity to see me during Mass and be proud of me since Grammy never did mortally. Elliot and I ended up becoming crack altar-servers, and one priest even dubbed us "The A-Team."

Grammy's dearest friends were crying on me during the funeral, and at age 10 it was all I could do to say, "It's ok, ma'am," or reassurances along those lines.

There's more I can say, but as it is, my Mom would have my head for what I've shared already. I better quit while I am ahead.

My debut mix, "Primarily Penetrant," is now available for mass consumption. It lasts 79:17, contains 32 tracks, and fills just over 72 MB of disk space. If you have access to a fast connection, then by all means, ask me for the link to download it. I appreciate the reviews from Ellie, Nissohr, Eric, Ziggy, Kevin, and anyone else whom I may have omitted. Thank you again, Ron, for hosting the mix and for all your assistance along the way. I deeply appreciate it.

Now about the job ... Just before 10 am yesterday morning, I received the call that I had been expecting: My background check and references had cleared, so the director of the schools offered me the job. I accepted it and told him I would be aiming to arrive at the first of the two libraries at 11 am in the morning. One of my references, John managed to call me and inform me that he had just gotten off the phone with my employer, so we had a chance to discuss a few things. Unfortunately, getting myself together took longer than expected, causing me to arrive at 11:30 instead. [Yikes, the last thing I had wanted to do was get off on the wrong foot with my superiors on a self-orientation day.] I did call the school to let them know to expect me late, so all was not lost. Moreover, none of my co-workers or superiors seemed particularly irked with me.

In the first library I spent just over two hours taking inventory of my desk, the collection of books, and even the supplies available to me. I even took part in a fire drill and repaired a book. I had a chance to meet some parents (Jim & Lori P.), teachers (Sharon R. and Leslie S.), and co-workers (Tiffany, spelling?). Leslie stopped by to pay me a visit and asked whether I was ready to start on Friday; I replied certainly.

After I sorted out some boxes of new books, I consolidated the ones destined for the second library into a single box and carried them out to my car along with my satchel. I made to it the second library at 2 ensuing a quick detour to the post office to mail Thank You notes.

At the second school as I carried the box and bag upstairs, I did meet up with one of the teachers and then the secretary, who unlocked the library for me. She informed the director I was there. He dropped by for a bit since he was substituting for a teacher. The director and I shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, and spoke a bit about the schedule for the next few weeks. As I took inventory of the supplies and books, I was happy to discover that I did not have as much to sort through. There were some books that needed re-shelving, but I did not fret about it.

Several students stopped by, curious to see the library door unlocked and open. I introduced myself to them and met them: Sydney, Tommi, Cameron, Daniel, and Megan to name a few. Unfortunately for me, the introductions and small talk continued out the door. I even met the janitor, John, before I got out of the building at 2:51. Given my departure time, I had to request that my neighbors watch my sister for 5 minutes until I arrived home later than I had originally anticipated.

Today is my first real day, and I have to head there ...
