Racing

I ran in the wee Edinburgh Santa Run in december and it was a bit disappointing - too many santas, not enough running. So I thought thats it, lets start racing and signed up for a 5K in January.

I didn't realise you needed such a gadget to run 5Km ;-)

well, for a 5K, and definately for my beginner level, I wouldn't need it, but it takes a lot of hassle out of training - like measuring distances on maps and timing myself and having to keep looking at my watch. And it has a neat little pacer feature where you can set yourself a target of how fast you want to cover a certain distance and then as you run here is a little man on the watch who'll be either ahead of you on the map or behind you, so you know whether to speed up or slow down. Things like that are very handy - but also great fun! And and I'm hoping to build up to marathons, when it'll really be useful!
