Admittedly I read it on wikipedia, and it didn't have a source cited, so it might be a myth or just plain wrong. But its plausible because octopussies can scramble around on land [or across lab tables] when they feel like it. Unlike a lot of cephalopods it doesn't have suckers on its tentacles though, so I wonder if they are strong enough to support it. How are your lovely kittens these days?
Yeah, exactly, I love it for just that reason, its so odd. Some creatures move wonderfully in water, some can gallop on land or scale trees effortlessly, others still take to the air with breathless ease- but I just love those animals that are like the chubby kids in games lessons - maybe because I was one of them - that are ill-designed for any enviroment and bob about, puffing away, hoping they don't get sucked into a shark. And the nautilus just -looks- fantastic too - it looks ancient and clever even while moving in a slightly ridiculous way. I wish they had some at the sealife centre.
