Moldy Oldies

Today, I was going to go to the Anti-Cruelty Society for some good old-fashioned volunteerism. I mean, if you can't afford to donate money, why not donate time? I've got plenty of it. I had a time set up to be there and everything ( Read more... )

I would suggest using dilute bleach to go over the floorboards if possible. For antibacterial won't in fact kill mold. Ugh I'm sorry that happened to you that is like a nightmare.

It's worth using bleach or vinegar solutions on the affected areas, as well. Gah, I'm so sorry this has happened! I've lost at least five pairs of boots over the years to cat pee (I had evil cats back in the day, who could sneak *anywhere* and just pee constantly onto anything I loved.), so I feel your pain.

Bleach. Definitely bleach.

And the call to the apartment management.

The inside of the wall is probably crawling with nasty stuff. (Gods know the insides of my walls probably are, with all the water issues I've had here... "thankfully" my stuff has soaked up the bulk of the water half the time...)

Good luck getting rid of it and here's hoping it won't be back.

there are anti-fungal sprays meant for woodwork. I can't tell you brands off-hand as I bought a UK brand for my mold problem in my room (downside of my room's nice door right onto the garden is that in damp English weather that can mean mold forming on the inside of the door...in my room! bleuuuch!!!!! :-( )
Not only will they kill the current mold but they will prevent it from reoccuring (bleach will kill current mold, but if there's somewhere for more to come from it won't solve that entirely) (though first port of call for that is, as other have said, to talk to the landlords as it sounds like the orginal 'fix' did not actually eliminate all the mold-contaminated parts of the structure. Either that or you have new mold-source goin' on in there :-(
