i finally decided to take the plunge today & ordered a netbook :) i decided on the MSI Wind U100-451 - it's a 10-incher. it has decent specs and was on sale for right around $300 @ Amazon. i was going to get the 279 model with the 6-cell battery but that looks a little bit bulky. i'm going to try the 3-cell one first & see how it fares - then ( Read more... )

I think I might've picked one of those up to sell for Black Friday.

Yup. I wound up selling it to a friend who sold it for a (small) profit.

For me it wouldn't have been useful - I'd like a (relatively) powerful laptop for my main system. My phone is almost powerful enough to be used as a portable computer anyway (granted, it sucks typing or reading something really long and I need WiFi, but it's also a lot easier than stuffing a Wind or an eePC (Wind competitor) in your pocket).

well at this point I think I'm pretty much gonna use it as a replacement for my current laptop, which is about 3 years old and has been aggravating (sp?) me in the past week for various reasons. the only thing I won't be able to do is rip/burn/play CDs on it, though I can use a USB drive.

plus, I'm a bit of a miniaturist & love most things small/cute so the idea of having a machine a bit smaller than my current one sounds good to me :)

i read a few articles about how netbooks are becoming a real threat to traditional laptops. the class i ta for has 300+ people in it, and i think i see maybe 1 netbook, and i've seen them a few times at coffee shops. i think it would be useful on an extended trip for backing up photos when a laptop would be too bulky or too much of a hassle.

i see your fb statuses about looking forward to april 10, while i'm not really looking forward to april 10 because i'm taking the audit section of the cpa that day. anyway, have a fun time in FL, and the upcoming engagement shoot is super exciting!

Woohoo! Welcome to the world of Mac! Unless you already had one...then welcome to the world of having a shiny new Mac!

it's actually a PC :) however I've been reading that it's pretty popular amongst other users to install OSX or Leopard (not sure about the latter but I do believe it's a Mac platform) on the laptop. I think it might even be possible to have both installed (Mac & PC systems) and to then just pick which one you want to use at startup. that sounds like a cool option to me...

btw the laptop I've had for the past 3 yrs has also been a little white PC - I love the appeal of the white & I've gotten so many comments asking me if it was a Mac... hehe. I've pretty much always been a PC person but when I worked in the music tech lab in college, I got pretty adept with using Macs (though the ones in the lab always used to crash randomly which was rather frustrating). I wouldn't be averse to playing around with a Mac system :)

Oh boo. I saw the white and just assumed...and the mac notebooks are pretty reasonably priced on ebay. I'm such a mac girl; it's like a personal prejudice against PCs.

I have a few friends who have done just that, installed both systems on their computers. They say it works fine and they get fewer problems (pop-ups, viruses, etc) running OSX or the like.

I think I'm jealous of you getting your shots done by JW. Would almost make the whole marriage thing worth it.
