I think generally people up North buy snow boots.

Also, snow days are even more awesome when you don't have to go to class. ;-D

The whole speech was pretty amazing. There were many jabs at Bush's administration, about exercising restraint and taking responsibility and not misusing power and giving science back its rightful place... It made me very happy.

Yeah, the science thing made me happy too. I feel like I should go and watch the whole speech.

Are snow boots like rain boots with chains all over them? I definitely saw a firetruck with snow chains, which made me laugh. Though considering that I saw at least two cars bumping into the curb this morning, the chains were probably justified.

I think snow boots are usually just really warm inside (lined with wool or something) and have really good traction - but no chains. X-D
