"There's nothing wrong with her."

"She's just eccentric!"

"That's just the way she is."

"Kaye has always been a free spirit."

"She doesn't need to take her medication. She doesn't need to be on medication!"

"There's nothing wrong with her!"

"There's nothing wrong with her!"

"There's nothing wrong with her!"

I know this woman, except she's a male inmate. Tough stuff.

(hugs) Bipolar Disorder can be a tough one for people to get because a person can be 'so positive, so upbeat and together' one day and so entirely delusional the next. If they only see the one side, they never believe the other. I hope you manage to find her and get her the help she needs but you also have to worry about your own lives. Whatever you do, don't kick yourselves for not succeeding when you've done your best. You can't fix her life or her. You can only lead her to help, you can't make her use it.

Exactly. I think a lot of the problem is that these people have yet to be truly exposed to the unpleasant side of her illness. And thank you. :)

I think I mentioned my family had a similar issue with the same problems. And the conclusion I came to is that people can't deal with someone looking them in the eye and lying, especially if the liar believes it is the truth.

My aunt told folks she was fine, folks were after her money, there was nothing wrong except with everyone else, etc. And people believed her. We had folks come over, look at the room my aunt was staying in and they were just appalled - she was a hoarder among other things and you can't believe what it looked like. But a month later after my aunt spent time talking to them, they were back to being SHOCKED that we would claim anything was wrong.

There's no really good answer that we found except to muddle through it and let time heal things up. I will say as my aunt went further and further off kilter in the home folks did start realizing that well, maybe there was something wrong ... but that took time.

Sorry this is happening to you.

That is precisely, almost to a "t", what we're dealing with. Kaye will hoard. She had a heart attack about two or three years ago, and the state of her house was appalling. But, she's very convincing and very manipulative. She can seem quite lucid, especially to people who don't see her on a regular basis.

Thanks. :) It's nice to know that someone understands what went through with this.
