Ergigious English Errors

Last night Markus and some of the other Germans cooked Erin and I dinner because we wanted to come over and see their apartment. It was great and maybe if I had a million dollars I would live where they live next semester... but I don´t. Person 3: "He said, 'Today is Monday.'" Single quotes inside of a double quote denote a quote within a quote...helpful??

Thanks so much. I argued with a teacher Monday for an hour about that. In spanish, you use the past tense, no matter what. I didn´t understand and thought I was crazy. But, I guess I am not... spanish is crazy.
