I dunno, I was kind of getting used to everyone dying. The problem is that it was starting to lack meaning to me, so I wasn't getting upset about it anymore.

Hussie had better pull out all stops to get me upset about another death. I mean, the things I got most upset about recently were a) John (near-invincible god-tier player) dying and b) Vriska's disappointment. Neither of these things involved actual deaths.

So Hussie has to do something REALLY BIG for me to take it seriously now. And so far he hasn't. Because now I don't believe in anything resembling permanence.

I think that's the joke. Or at least, it works for my bizarre sense of humour. Death is a thing that gets a strong emotional response, and Hussie has used that pretty well in the past. But we're at the point now where it is effectively meaningless! And that's funny for me. It plays with normal storytelling, just like Homestuck always has.

And then he'll turn around and have something happen to the dream bubbles, and suddenly death will be a thing again and we'll all have those sutures torn out horribly when every single Dave is dead or something.

I was actually kind of expecting some sort of horrible joke from Doc Scratch - seeing as he's also Lil' Cal. So this doesn't surprise/infuriate me as much as it seems to others.

I'm just worried because in the past, when death has become meaningless, it's often meant really bad things for the storyline. Like, the creator has to come up with something BIGGER and BIGGER because they've overdone things to the point where it doesn't even matter anymore if someone dies. But hopefully you're right and it'll double back on itself. Man, that'll suck.

We were also pre-warned that something fishy was up when he Doc Scratch was starting out this whole thing by showing a panel of future-John talking to Karkat and saying they'll meet soon, and then saying he'll explain how that still happens. So we already knew something was up.

Maybe other people didn't connect the dots the same way, and that's why everyone seems so much more upset than I do?

It was my bad, really. It was late and I was irritated because the fandom as a whole is pretty ridiculous about this stuff. (Apparently Terezi is more of a bluh bluh huge bitch than Vriska instead of just also morally dubious, this is a hint that Eridan will be back, etc etc). mspa_updates could have responded more gracefully, but you should have seen the other fora where Homestuck discussion happens. Absolutely batshit, and I don't use the word lightly. Anyway, getting in that argument was a pretty uncharacteristic move for me to make, and I think I regret being so blunt about the whole thing. That place is still the best for actual Homestuck discussion ( ... )

See? You are actually analyzing this intellectually, instead of going straight to crazy. I think you were correct in everything you said. People are reacting stupidly ( ... )
