1. bottle sterilizer? Sterilize first use, then dishwasher is fine. If you use the products for sale at Babies 'R' Us as a gauge of what you need, you're going to be wasting a LOT of money on useless crap.
2. humidifier? Cool mist is great, Warm mist is generally for specific issues (congestion, breathing troubles). Vicks is a fine one to get. Pretty much, get one that you can get filters for, as that's going to be the expensive and painful part of owning/using one.
3. sleep positioner? This is to keep the baby from rolling onto its face and suffocating. Most parents I know have found them fairly useless - the baby either won't sleep in it or will defeat/escape it. The best answer is to sleep with the baby in your bed - you'll be constantly aware of his position and be able to monitor the situation. It's the safest IMHO - This assumes that you and opiecrap don't go to bed drunk or on drugs

I remember a conversation at work on this topic. Aside from holding the baby (a lot), they said to reposition the head every couple of hours to prevent pressure in the same spot for extended periods of time.
ok, i admit it. i don't really know what to do with a baby. so i need some opinions on the following items.... 1. bottle sterilizer? -- you don't need it 2. humidifier? -- wait until you need it 3. sleep positioner? -- I'll give you the one that my sister-in-law gave us. jarod never used it but it was helpful for ian because he felt he needed to feel something up next to his tummy and we didn't want to make him a tummy sleeper. 4. baby carrier? -- i used a snuggli for jarod and can send it to you. i'm using a ring sling with ian and love it. i can send you the website where i got it for ~$30...worth every penny and the lady who makes it will do it in any fabric you want.
