The relationship between Spike and Joyce was always interesting (note my own sidelong comment on it via the repaired mug near the end of “Precious Cargo”), and I agree that his words and actions are all the more revealing when he doesn’t know anyone is watching.

Adding Joyce to something you were already doing - the ‘We Wait’ tie-in - was also a nice touch. And the combined involvement (watching over people she loves) and detachment (a spirit who can’t actually affect anything) is a delicate balance, which I’d say you succeeded in capturing.
