After a couple of nights in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, the trip out was unexpectedly difficult. Bright, sunny weather, but the wind was horrendous. Our rig is a Class C, which is the most vulnerable to gusts: more surface area (“sail” area) than the Class B, less weight and higher center of gravity than the Class A. One of the biggest problems Susan and I encounter in our periodic relocations is finding reliable internet. Because there is no particular hurry this time around, Susan and I are traveling more slowly. Drive a few hours during a day, then stop in one place for two or three days. Out of Oklahoma now, and staying a few days in a park about 90 minutes from Amarillo. Saturday, Susan and I visited the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Spent hours there, and could have made a day of it if she hadn’t got tired. We’re taking our time this trip, drive a day and then rest a couple of days. No rush, and even ( Read more... )

We’re pulling out as soon as I get things together. Supposed to be substantial rain on the Interstate, so it may take us a while, but we’re in no particular hurry. Drive an hour, rest an hour, keep that up till our first stop. And so it goes.

Susan and I started watching hours before any of the polls were due to close, just to get a feeling for the general tenor of things. Then polls did begin closing, and returns began coming in …( Political stuff under the cut. )

We got an unexpected tornado warning early this evening; well, we knew it could happen, and were watching for it, but we didn’t expect it. Since a motorhome offers only slightly more high wind protection than a cardboard box, Susan and I jumped into our car and went driving, hoping to either 1)  move out of the path of any tornado that appeared - ( Read more... )
