Beautiful! Some of the best I've seen from you.

I've been wondering how you fared in the flooding. I hope you didn't have any damage!

So far no damage, but the river is expected to crest again next week. Hopefully the dikes will stand the pressure.

Again, I didn't do much. This is the view from my bathroom window. By pure chance, I clicked just as the neighbors' kid came running out. Then the puddle grew bigger, and when a truck approached, I wondered if it would sink or swim -- so I took a picture, just to find out.

Do you edit these? How do you get the lighting to look so nice?

I fixed them a little bit with the simple version of Photoshop, but I have a good, semiprofessional camera to begin with: a good yet surprisingly inexpensive Nikon. Plus, you know how it is up here: long days, bright sun, beautiful light, sunsets that last three or four hours, and everything feels warm and orange-tinted, even when it's insanely cold. I took the top one at dusk -- you can see the long shadows. In the bottom one, the muddy waters sort of enhance the overall brownish feel...

The beautiful light and sky is something I miss from being there.
