I don't know why, but this year I'm actually getting excited for Christmas. I don't normally. Usually I find Christmas annoying, commercial, and awkward. But this year, I'm excited. I even find myself wanting to go Christmas shopping. However, I predict ten minutes in an actual shopping mall all geared up for the holidays will cure me of this.
Divers in BC got the go ahead to sink a Boeing 737 off the coat of Vancouver Island. The plane was lowered into the ocean and is held up by stilts so that divers can swim under it. First face transplant undertaken successfully this week in France. Link. Critics speculate on trauma caused by no longer recognising one's own face. Patient pleased with operation, able to smile, eat, speak again, says thank you.
BOINC is Berkley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. So, same as SETI but with more stuff. SETI is running out of BOINC as of next month. This means that you can divide your run time between ET search and a number of other projects such as CERN LHC, climate prediction, and bunch if disease related programs. Loads of fun!
