Right. Ladies and gentlemen, don't open any image links in MSN from me until I give the all clear, I appear to have caught a virus, which presented itself as a (non-porn and generally legitimate-looking) image link, but made Avast go bonkers. I jammed on the shutdown button, deleted the file in safe mode, and am now running a generalised scan of

You should probably set Avast to run a boot scan and then reboot.

Echoed. If it's got into nasty places (boot record, some system files) it probably can't scan from within Windows, so a boot-time scan is definitely a good plan.

I will, I'm basically doing it twice to satisfy my paranoia, though it will take a while. Thank you both for reminding me though :)
