Hi Amber and Devin, I'm so glad to see that you have posted an update and that you are both safe. As I was eating breakfast this morning I heard of the assassination of Benazir. I immediately thought of your guys.
As you know, Sejal and I are back in the US now. I'm currently down in California for work. The Radio program made it sound as though Benazir was the savior of Pakistan. Continually they reported that the "Future Prime Minister" of pakistan had been killed and their field representative (in Dubai!) spoke of the mourning of the entire nation. They also reported that most likely there would be no new state of emergency (I'm not sure how they knew that one). As always, I'm glad that I can get the real story from you guys. Stay safe and keep the posts coming, I love to read them.

the foreign minister stated that there would be no emergency. but, keep in mind that the attorney general stood up in front of the supreme court of pakistan 24 hours before emergency was declared on 3 november and stated, with a straight face, that there were "no plans" for emergency.
and it's funny, because both the PML-N and the PPP representatives that I spoke with were actually supportive of an emergency. i mean, you'd think, given the violence in the streets and the assassination of a major political leader, this would call for an emergency.
but apparently emergencies are to be used only for prolonging musharraf's rule.... we shall see.
wow. i had no idea, until i read your post... i don't know what to say. it all sounds very scary & complicated. i'm so glad for your posts. sending you both much love. take good care.
Hi there - I was sent here by angryasiangrrl who posted a link to you as someone whose entries could give a sense of what it's like in Pakistan right now. I will friend you so that your public entries show up on my friends page - Hope that's okay with you!

I was shocked to see the news on CNN this morning. I am glad to hear that you are both safe. I am also glad to hear more about the truth of who she really was. CNN's interviews with Dan Rather and Rudy Guliani did not bring much understanding. It is hard to see the truth in the sensational mishmash of fear mongering and exaltation. Stay safe you two, thank you for sharing your experiences and insights.
