I got the job in RTP. I'm just waiting to hear from my current manager when he can let me go, but my new manager would like me there within 3 weeks (but he wants to make sure I have time to move, etc. . . ). I'm excited and scared and everything all at once

Congrats!! How's the apartment search going?

Pretty well. We've narrowed it down to maybe 3 places. Rob just heard a report about how the apartment prices in Raleigh fell by 4% over the last year, apparently the third largest drop in the nation. We're going to try to use that and a flexible move-in date to try to bargain a good deal out of someone (we hope!). I was freaking out over crime in and around the area we were looking to move, until Rob had me check the crime where we currently live. Suffice to say that the number of assaults on our street in the past two months was pretty jaw-dropping. That made me feel a little better.

Yeah... I made the mistake of looking at the Sex Offenders Registry when I lived on Capitol Hill... There were 22 registered offenders (type II and III) within a two-block radius. No joke. The halfway house down the street probably had something to do with that.

Good luck with the apartment search. Rent here has continued to go up (the place I lived in a year ago -385 sq. ft.- goes for $725 now). That should subside when (not if) a bunch of these empty condos get converted into rental units and flood the rental market.
