Ugh. I feel ill. I mean, I was never thrilled with all the strikethrough/boldthrough crap, but I wasn't annoyed enough to stop paying because I really did want the paid features. esmestrella even is a paid journal. But... I don't know. Someone remarked elseLJ that the whole "content flagging" thing may be a compromise between the US's comparatively strict laws/TOS and Russia/lj.ru's relatively loose ones, or something. I... just really dunno. Most wank leading up to this has been "oh, get over it" but this episode in the soap opera leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

The US has, quite probably, the loosest laws on the planet in regards to free speech! I think there are a few (but only a few) European countries that allow some things that would be considered "child pornography" in the US, but everything else... our laws are better.

But our business practices don't reflect the freedoms in those laws. Corporations, catering to the general public, have an interest in restricting activity & communication that makes many people uncomfortable, even if it's entirely legal.

Here either from metafandom or from someone linked by metafandom -- I've lost track.

When I was a whiny five-year-old, my father used to tell me that the complaints department was in Montpelier, Vermont, and I should mail all complaints there instead of sharing them with the family at dinnertime. By the time I was six, he decided that Montpelier wasn't far enough, and moved the complaints department to Hong Kong. I feel that almost the same thing is going on here.

6A says, "Direct your comments to the complaint department in Moscow!"

Excellent post. Love the last line. Oh, we so have.

"New Mommy doesn't love you any more, but that's okay. There's another New Mommy who is so much better, and has a sexy Russian accent!"

*splort*

Someone needs to write a sequel to that LJ/6A fanfic that bounced around during Strikethrough 1.0.
