About those blocked interest searches

Dec 08, 2007 12:07

I made a post at ljspeaks. It's long. With lists.

Banned Interest Terms. Note that these aren't exactly "banned;" they just don't work when you try to search them ( Read more... )

The root is 'cracker', so any term that contains that root is unsearchable.

Nope, in fact hunting through other folks interests is how I've stumbled across some of the ones listed.

Check out cannot_find_me; I made it with nothing but blocked interests.

Googling for interests will get you ones that have been around for ages; they don't work. The change is in the search engine; it doesn't matter when they were added, or whether the search is "from" a profile or the interest page--it goes through the same code.

Wow, this is just getting more and more insane. Which, sadly, doesn't surprise me. BTW, I hope you don't mind, but I added you to my friends list after seeing all the stuff you've been writing about this lately. You're hard work is greatly appreciated, by me at least.

i don't know if this is relevant, but is anyone else not able to edit comments? i've noticed that right after they created the comment editing system, i was able to do it. but during the last few days, i haven't been able to.

probably not relevant, but i was just wondering. (:

anyway, i meant to add to my above comment that i really want to thank elfwreck again for all of your hard work compiling all of this stuff for us. it makes me really happy to know that if anything, we're all sticking together on this.

I dropped to free a while ago; I can't edit comments. (Have you been trying to edit comments that have already been replied to? Can't do those.)

You're welcome. It's been, umm... interesting. And I figure that the only chance we've got of getting this changed, is to inform many many people very quickly.

no. maybe it was a glitch when they first set up the software; i saw the option to do so on one of mine when it first was implemented. i didn't know it was for paid accounts only! (i've just got a basic account.)

i'll see you around, especially over at ljspeaks. (:
