A recent budding romance of mine officially fizzled out over the weekend. She actually found me via something I had written and thought we might be soul mates. That coupled with the fact that she was beautiful made me hope for the best, but ultimately she is a little weird and I am a lot weird and unfortunately our respective weirdnesses didn't have much overlap. I didn't know her well enough or long enough to be crushed or anything, but I was certainly disappointed that it didn't work out.
The experience taught me something about life, though. You are a lot smarter than I ever was, so you've likely figured this out already and consider it obvious, but I think I finally have concrete proof that it's virtually impossible to insulate yourself from sadness without also insulating yourself from happiness. I use to think breaking up with someone is horrible, I never want to experience that again! My naive solution was to simply not date. If you never date you never have to deal with a break-up. Genius! Except, of course, you
