Very slow progress

I've managed to lose a fair amount of weight in the past month, although it's only a fraction of what I need to lose to attain my goal weight. I'm hoping I've managed to get habituated to it, so that I can keep it up; the holiday weekend was my big test but I'm currently happy with how it's turned out. Namely, I'm working out about 45 minutes a day ( Read more... )

Have you ever use steam room / sauna before? It should be effective.

Most reports I've read indicate that saunas only cause temporary weight loss (by dehydrating you, basically).

Almost every girl in my high school tried some form or another of a sweat-out diet... it really does help you loose "weight" because water is relatively heavy. However, a good enough dehydration that will show up on a scale is also good enough to get you a trip to the hospital... please don't do this to yourself. Fat is what you are trying to burn, not water. It sounds like you've got the right idea, keep up the good work!

I do love the idea of a sauna, though, and my apartment complex actually has one in the men's locker rooms. (Probably the women's also, although I've never checked myself and never asked anybody ... hmm. Who knows what marvels they have in there?) But fundamentally they're kind of boring, as you just sit there uncomfortably.

What about Wii Fit? I think it's pretty nifty if you can get over the sarcastic, even acidic commentary that the avatar dumps on you between excercises.

Oh, wii fit is fun. I played it a bunch over last christmas break when I was visiting family; pretty fun stuff. A few drawbacks:
1. Slow, though ... even after only a day or two I was already annoyed at the avatar.
2. The board isn't probably as good as actual gym equipment.
3. Having it in my apartment isn't necessarily good. Getting into the gym helps set the frame for what I want to do; I've got flexibands and a yoga mat gathering dust in my living room which I see sometimes when I'm slumped on the futon :)

But one of the things I'm looking forward to (should I keep up the weight loss) is getting back on the wii board and seeing what it says...
