If shit goes down, do you got this?

Beloved flist, you may remember how I was whining and carrying on about the three-day conference I had to attend last week, and how I would fail at being an actual person and an academic. Well, all modesty aside, I needn't have worried because I fucking owned that conference. I dominated like someone that dominates professionally for a living, even ( Read more... )

I am not surprised by the domination in the least :):)

I am going to take that as a compliment! How are you anyway, dear heart? Are you also dominating things?

Dominating is always a compliment but no, sadly, I am not. I think I need to practice more :):)

I am pretty sure you are dominating effortlessly without even knowing it, lady: everyone around you is more than likely a little bit intimidated and awed by you because you are AMAZING. And you have great hair and you are super-charming.

Go you and your awesome academia dominating ways :D That's really excellent on the conference and I completely understand the come down. I spent the days after my recent conference on the sofa with the curtains drawn.

Oh man, I wish I had energy/time participate in poetry slams, but while I really enjoy reading/performing a) there aren't that many opportunities around here unless I venture to London, which, no and b) I seriously can't be bothered to memorise shit, and it's just not the same if you have a piece of paper in your hands.

Thank you! And I didn't socially hamstring myself once! This is unprecedented. The sandwiches and the all-day pyjamas and the lounging about? Not so unprecedented.

Maybe we need to set up YouTube-only slams, or teeny-tiny university slams. That would actually be pretty awesome. If I find myself a post-doc or a lecturer post, how would you feel about maybe setting up a teeny-tiny occasional cross-university slam? No pressure, though.

*is intrigued* How would this teeny-tiny occasional cross university slam even work? I have to say I have a massive aversion from youtube videos that would include my face in any context though...

Man, I've finally gotten off my arse enough to send poetry submissions around, guess next point would be to investigate some open mic stuff (but dammit they're always on Sunday in some pub blah), is picky.

I have no idea! I'll freely admit that I was flying high on sugar and exhaustion when I suggested it, but I'm pretty sure we could figure something out if we wanted to pursue it. Maybe set it up as a cross-disciplinary research group, or a faculty-sponsored student society? Or YouTube slam poetry in masks! Like verse vigilantes, like a poetic Batman! Bardman, if you will. Oh, I crack myself up.

I think you absolutely should find yourself an open mic event: your stuff is AMAZING. Do eeeet, even if it is on a Sunday.
