It was the end of the year. The dormitories stood empty, all belongings packed hours ago. A few people were still hanging around in their houses, but the majority of them were outside enjoying the weather in the hour or so they had left before they needed to make their ways to board the train.

Draco and Harry sat on the Quidditch pitch with a large group consisting of their friends from both of their Houses. Sheltered by the stands they were shielded from the prying eyes of the many students who had been dogging the couple ever since their entrance into the Great Hall.

“I can’t believe this is it,” Blaise said.

Draco’s friends had, as Draco expected, all been quick to accept his choice of partner. After all, he had helped to guide them through the difficulties they faced during the war. Giving his relationship their blessing was just recompense.

“I know,” Hermione agreed. “Of course I realised that our time was almost up, but it’s one thing to know it logically and another to face the reality.” Heads nodded around the group.

“What are you all doing after we leave?” Ron addressed the group. Draco and Harry glanced at each other. They had talked about it and Draco was going back to the manor, whilst Harry would be returning to Grimmauld Place. They had agreed to contact each other regularly and were just going to take things as they came. Draco told the others as much. “I guess we’ll just wing it from there,” he said.

Seamus grinned at him. “I doubt you two will be able to keep away from each other for long,” he said, voicing the general opinion.

“Probably not,” Harry shrugged. “But we both have things that we need to sort out before we can decide what we’re going to do with our lives next.”

“What about the rest of you?” Ron prompted. “I’m going to apprentice at the Ministry, but you probably all knew that already.”

“I want to continue my education,” Hermione said, surprising nobody. “There are quite a few courses that I’ve been looking into, but I haven’t made a decision as to what ones I want to do yet.”

“I’m going to study further Herbology in America,” Neville said. Again, this had been common knowledge for a while. There was a prestigious centre in Florida that had quickly offered Neville a place upon his application.

“I’ve been offered a position at Gringotts,” Blaise announced. When the others stared at him he shrugged. “The goblins appear to value Slytherin qualities.”

Draco smirked. “As well they should”

“What about you, Pansy?” Hermione asked.

“I’m working at a company that organises business and social functions.”

Hermione nodded, satisfied. Pansy had perhaps been the one who had taken her change in situation due to her role in the war the hardest. A job like that was a throwback to the life she used to have with all of the balls and social events she so loved.

The rest of the group explained their plans and soon it was time for them to go. Reluctantly they made their ways through the castle for the last ever time, moving slowly and trying to take in every detail in the minutes that they still had remaining. Eventually they were coming out of the main doors of the castle, down the steps and to the carriages waiting for them. A bittersweet mood had fallen over the group as they bid farewell to the place that had been their home for so many years.

“I guess this is the last time that we’ll ever see Hogwarts,” Draco said.

Harry gave a small shrug. “As students, yes. But I’m sure we’ll come back to visit sometimes. You know, when we’re older and wiser and all that.”

Draco shifted his head in assent. He knew how much the old castle meant to Harry. On a whim he took the shorter man’s hand. Harry smiled at him and moved so that he was closer to Draco’s side. “Come on,” the blond urged quietly. “We’ve got a train to catch.”
