The short answer is: they mostly didn't. I love a good little educational TV show now and then, so when this title popped up on Netflix, it went on my To Watch list immediately. I'd seen a few of the other "In Colour" documentaries already and thought the Russian Revolution was a fascinating topic to have original footage of. So last night, it went

That does sound disappointing. For my part, I'd prefer the Ken Burns approach to re-enactment. Sometimes the best way for history to come alive is to use the images of the time. I'm generally happy with PBS, but occasionally something comes across the waves that shouldn't have.
