A piece of death, a piece of power.

A week after Halloween, I attended a Samhain rit with a local grove. The theme of the rit was on dreams and death, and at the end everyone was given a reminder of the theme. In this case the reminder was a small uranium-glass marble, described by the hosts as "a piece of death".

Yep, kinda how I feel. Nuclear energy and particle physics: understanding and power. No power is bad per se, it's all in the application and understanding of the consequences of such use.

My memento mori is a dead bat in a jar of formaldehyde. It's a constant reminder that formaldehyde evaporates and I should really get more.
