During the recent unpleasantness (economic and war-related, I couldn't help but be reminded of the reactions of late 19th century Americans of various classes against the immigrant invasion of the time (Chinese, Irish, Scandinavian among others). It's frighteningly mirrored in the reactions these days to Mexicans, and other Spanish-speaking immigrants (legal and otherwise).
Sadly, some things never change. And people always seem eager to take the easy way (blame) than to work to make things better for everyone.
