I owe Digi, Dave, and placebo all apologies. What started out at a cross between curiosity/venting about the secularizaion of a religious holiday degenerated into something I did not intend. The posts have been deleted due to this

I'm cool. It's hard to state opinions you feel strongly about in this type of forum without it coming across as rude (I wasn't offended by what you responded to me, btw). I didn't see your other responses, but I appreciate you apologizing to anyone you might have inadvertantly offended and I applaud your strength in your beliefs.

And this day is permanently enscribed in my calender, just so you know. :-D

Kudos Kiddo...I was going to respond to your original posted and didn't get the chance but I applaud you for the strength it took to come back and apologize to those you felt you had slighted. This can be a rough way to discuss such a potentially hot topic but good on ya for apologizing just the same....

And so you know I agree with ya on a great deal of what you said....The holiday season tends to just piss me off anymore

Your last point is a very good one and one I hadn't considered. I guess to a large extent I've been sheltered from the completely close-minded, hypocritical people (whether Christian or otherwise) lately being in the religious studies department at GSU. There just simply isn't a place for anyone like that there. Plus, my wonderful friends are so respectful of others beliefs, it is easy for me to forget that the persecution and intolerance still pervades much of our society. Maybe one day (you know, that one day when there will be world peace, yeah, that day) everyone can openly worship and celebrate whatever it is they choose without any negative backlash to it.
