Are there any current or erstwhile McDonald's employees reading this? Are McDonald's restaurants supplied with real eggs, like, in shells, or are the breakfast egg pucks achieved by unnatural means ("pour 100mL of chilled albumin slurry into poach-hopper. Titrate yolk slurry with micropipette until egglike yolk:white ratio is achieved. Do not ( Read more... )

I don't know, but I must say, I do love me an egg McMuffin. With bacon, always bacon. Those sausage pucks are grotesque.

No bacon at Chinese McD's breakfast! Only sausage and deli ham, which is served not on sandwiches but aswim in a bowl of broth alongside macaroni. There's also a ghastly irregularly-shaped orange thing (served on a hamburger bun) that might be some perversion of chicken.

You're wrong, though: bacon must be the grossest of the McDonald's meats. At least in the sausage, all the irregularities and the malignancies are ground into undetectable oblivion. With the bacon you're face-to-face with the flesh itself!

I can tell China and I wouldn't get along too well.

But the spices in the sausage are just... vile! I don't mind the flesh, and I'm surprised you do with eating congealed pig's blood and chicken feet!

Same here. I've given them more than one chance, but with all that skin and so little meat, they just seem like a waste to me.

Actually, I think part of the enjoyment is derived from how long it takes to pick apart the bones and eat the little bits of meat. Chinese meals tend to be prolonged affairs and chicken feet are a perfect food to slowly munch on while holding a long conversation.

I'd never thought of that side of it. I'm a fan of slow and relaxing meals, so next time I'm in China, I won't reject the feet!

hello! chicken feet is actually a popular dimsum dish. try it when you're back in hk. it's stewed/steamed in some delicious sauce and doesn't look as disturbing as the one above. =)

I had ducks feet for the first time recently. It was with wasabi sauce and, other than the chewiness and random bits of bone to remove inelegantly from my mouth, not bad at all.

Jellyfish on the other hand, was wonderful. And I want more and more and more of it. It reminded me of some types of seaweed - that jelly/crunch combination.

Frog was also a recent addition to my list of foods - it was weirdly chicken like, but it felt like there were more muscle cells per volume than chicken. If that makes any sense.

Thanks for putting up lots of pictures of food - makes me incredibly jealous and gives me ideas for my next trip to Flushing, NY where there are places that make things that make me happy. Although right now I'm sitting in lab sighing.

I'm sure some instant oatmeal will cheer me up. But only if I ladypose while eating it.

Oh, man! My boyfriend lives in Flushing, ten blocks from Main St. I love seeing all the Chinese, etc. markets and shops and everyone out there with their little carts on weekend mornings.

i used to love duck's feet when i was a kid. I would always make my mom order it for me in chinatown. Now I can't get down with the rubbery web foots though. Sadly.

Oh, great post as usual, Elyse. You could easily leave modeling and be a writer.
Food (most of it) looks interesting. Not sure of taste of some of dishes. I used to eat frogs legs (French style) and they were delicious. Then, I saw live frogs in a bucket waiting to have their legs 'harvested' and never ate them again.

You are a good sport to wait so long for evening shoot. You must have really been cold and hungry for dinner.
RMB 178. Haha. Find that (nowhere) in the States.
