As a British girl living in a town where the average bookshop consists only of poor chick lit and misery memoirs, I consider myself a master of the genre, and have to say that your outline of the constants is pretty accurate.
But how could you forget the frequency with which characters sit glumly nursing mugs of tea thinking of their lost beau?

Swallow skis is actually a small Japanese brand, but I believe they're made for cross-country, not downhill.

The "splayed like a starfish" image reminds of Maggie from the Simpsons in her starfish ski suit.

No! This one didn't even have a snack bar, just a smoking lounge. Knowing China, I'm surprised you couldn't smoke right on the slopes. Nothin' like an xtra strong Double Happiness butt on the poma lift, I always say.
