Look at all those Japanese cars driving on the right-hand side of the road: it could almost be South Carolina. I haven't felt this at home since I went to the American consulate to get blank pages put in my passport. My ( Read more... )

oh man I miss Taiwan and all its lychee goodness! make sure to hit the night markets, and, if you like tapioca there's this snack... I don't remember what it's called, but it's a bowl of tapioca (like a big blob of pearls/bubbles) with shaved ice and brown sugar. it cools you down better than it tastes, but it's kind of a must-try!

Ooh, jealous! An ex of mine is from Taipei and he always talked about all the yummy food at the night market. You must go (if you haven't already)! *_*

P.S. I think "shagbark" is never spotted outside of West Hollywood either!

In case anyone gets hungry while hiking...

The Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata) is a common hickory in the eastern United States and southeast Canada. It is a large deciduous tree, growing up to 27 m tall, and will live up to 200 years old. Mature Shagbarks are easy to recognize because, as their name implies, they have shaggy bark. This character is however only found on mature trees; young specimens have smooth bark.

The shagbark hickory's nut is edible and has a very sweet taste.
