1) They belong together because they choose to be together. He keeps coming back, and she keeps not dusting him and working with him to further her mission. She told Angel to go back to LA and kept Spike by her side to the end. She told him she loved him (and I don't think that was some mercy thing ( ... )

I had this answered to my complete satisfaction only to press God only knows what and wipe out my replies! Going to try again and hope I say it just as well. This is in two parts because I exceeded character max.

1. Why do Buffy and Spike belong together rather than Buffy and Angel? Bangel was not a real relationship. It was not built upon anything. If you watch the episodes or read the transcripts you see that it suddenly became "love" in episode 7, Angel. Just two episodes prior (Never Kill a Boy on a First Date) Buffy was actively lusting after and pursuing Owen. She even gushed about the boy in front of Angel (and not to make Angel jealous...she just didn't even note his presence in any important way). The next episode didn't have Angel in it at all and suddenly Buffy is "in love" with Angel in that 7th episode. No building attraction or courtship rituals...nothing. After they were "in love" several things to note...they had little to nothing in common being one of them. They rarely talked or laughed or did anything ( ... )

I think it was more than just loving Buffy that helped him on that journey though. Being in company with humans as something other than food made those adjustments necessary too. As he began to care for Joyce, for Dawn and then others he had no choice but to change lest he not take care of them properly. It became easier to see Dawn in other teens, Joyce in other moms and so on. The more exposure to humans the more change was required and he stepped up to the plate. It allowed him to (ex) save Xander even with Buffy dead...Xander mattered to him even if he didn't really like him ( ... )

Q1. Which Buffy romance didn't work and why? (this doesn't include flings or mistakes like Parker although Parker was connected as a response to finding a human alternative to Angel relationship) Riley's was a joke. Willow initially pushed that relationship and she tried to force it to have that "normal" boyfriend everyone said she needed and they approved of. They were in no way compatible.

Q2. Do you like or hate Bangel? (if you hate it or have some negatives please state why) I wouldn't have minded it had they allowed for proper closure where Buffy and Angel naturally moved on as such a relationship would normally go. Because that is not what happened I HATE it.

Q3. What romance in fiction do you compare Spuffy to? (example Bangel = Romeo and Juliet or Spike and Drusilla = Bonnie and Clyde or Syd and Nancy) Not sure. They have a unique growing relationship that isn't often shown in fiction. I suppose Jamie and Claire in the Outlander series might work insofar as they grow closer and work well together. Both strong ( ... )
