EF Reader Recs for 2016

Jan 02, 2017 08:16

Happy New Year! I hope 2017 finds everyone happy, warm, and safe! Last year (2016) was a great year to be a Spuffy shipper (everything else...er...lets not talk about that), especially here on EF. We were blessed with tons of amazing stories, both long and short, by both new and established writers. With so much weath and most of us having so ( Read more... )

I'll start with my recommendations for a category that I didn't do much searching for or reading BUT these stories made a "believer" out of me! Here are some either begun in 2016 or updated WIPs in 2016 all human stories that beg to be read and are likely to convert other readers who don't usually read this genre (not listed in any particular order and in no way a full list ( ... )

It's so hard to remember over an entire year! For this list I only included stories started in 2016 that are completed.

Seraphim by Wonder and Ashes: A beautifully crafted fic, with a feral Spike, a prophecy, and a sweet ending.

Through the Looking Glass by FlightsofFancy: Buffy's a vamp, Spike's the Slayer, but they still can't stay away from each other. A heartfelt tale with amazing friendship scenes between Spike and Clem.

Dreamer by Gort: Spike and Buffy are both caught by the Initiative, and it isn't pretty, but they manage to escape and figure out they like being close together. And there's lots about Buffy's hair ;-)

More Than a Crush by Autumn2005 Buffy isn't the one who gets chained up in the excellent episode rewrite of 'Crush'

Send to All by  Carrie-Ann A fun (and funny) story in which a witch tries to revenge on Buffy by mass sending a text message on her phone. The take on the BuffyBot in this story is one of my favorites of all time.

Yeah, That Happened...by Cryptwarmer An epic retelling of the Spike and Buffy ( ... )

I'm going to have to go back and look over one shots, but here are some long fics that captivated me during the past year.

Accessible, by mak 324. An all human, totally believable love story with all the feels. One of my favorite romances of all time, and I've been alive for awhile!http://dark-solace.org/elysian/viewstory.php?sid=4548

Destiny of the Chosen, by Dauntless Grace. Beautifully written slow burn relationship between a new Slayer and the vampire who finds himself training her to become a worthy opponent, and finds himself captivated by her spirit along the way.

Second String, by Solstice. Spike is a watcher with a haunted past, Buffy has lost her Watcher and there is trouble afoot. They join with the Scoobies to form a team full of heart and honor to face a demon takover. Xander has a lovely relationship in this one too!

The Ring Talks, by Myrabeth. Post Something Blue Buffy and Spike find they still have things ( ... )

List of long fics I enjoyed this year (cont)

One Step Away, by flootzavut. Great alternate treatment of School Hard and a nice look into Spike's mind and heart
http://dark-solace.org/elysian/viewstory.php?sid=5060

The Leading Man by Freya, an adorable all human fic about a tv star who becomes enamored with his youngest fan and her beautiful mom. A WIP that I hope we see more of soon!
http://dark-solace.org/elysian/viewstory.php?sid=4720

Thing of Doom by Sunalso. This is just good dirty fun! Why have just one vampire boyfriend when you can have TWO versions of Spike? He gets split into his demon and William but both are in love and lust with Buffy, while poor Angel on the sidelines has to watch.

A very short list. yellowb1 January 7 2017, 15:07:20 UTC
I had some trouble coming up with a list for this list of lists. I have far too many favorite fics, and there are far too many great fics, and then there are these authors, see, who deserve lists of their own because everyone should read everything they've ever written; and other authors I just personally connect to in some hard-to-pinpoint way. So instead of any of that, this is my very personal list of fics about which I've gotten so excited over some specific aspect that I told a non-fanfic writer friend about them. Many beloved stories from this year are not here, obviously, but many of those have already gotten a rec from someone else above in this thread.

If I Saw You in Heaven, by Sigyn. You know how sometimes you've got a Spike that's got a William and a Demon in his head? And then you can consider what would happen if you added a soul? And while it's often extremely fun, it all seems a bit problematic if you think about it too much? None of that goes on in this metaphysical love/adventure story set in heaven; instead ( ... )

My account's so old that I've lost the info and I don't feel like making a new one at this moment. Sorry. Anyway, Buffy isn't my primary fandom (not even close) so this list is probably gonna be the shortest on here. Would be a little longer, but some of my recommendations are already on here.

Thursday's Child by Zabjade: Shortly after the events of “The Replacement”, Buffy and Spike are accidentally caught up in a demon fertility ritual, leading to a violent assault and a very strange pregnancy. Compelled by the ritual to do whatever it takes to protect her unborn child, Buffy also has to deal with an angry and needy Riley, a traumatized Spike, a sick mother, and a hellgod out to use her sister to open up a door between dimensions ( ... )
