So I was having a conversation about a minor character in Lost with a friend.

They're thinking that because the place where the guy died was before they crashed on the island, that it can't be permanent, because it was in the past, and that would be changing time.

But even though it was the past, it was the guy's future, so for him it's still permanent. They just can't affect what other people are doing there, not what happens to him. Funny how that works.
