This morning I was walking home from the co-op at a little after 8:00 am when I approached a woman in her mid- to late-twenties escorting two small children.  The first was a girl, maybe three years old, and the second was a boy of age four or five.

In April of 1961 a miraculous birth took place in San Francisco California.  My mother, Sibyl Carter Metheny, gave birth to a tiny, royal blue runt of a creature with rH disease and an umbilical hernia.  Six weeks premature, the little thing was so small that my mother would later claim to have been able to hold it's head in the palm of her hand.

CORNISH HENS GLAZED IN HONEY

Ingredients
2 cornish hens
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup honey
2 T. butter
1 T. dried rosemary
1 t. dried thyme
1 t. powdered ginger
salt and pepper to taste

Wash hens and remove giblets.  Cut hens in half lengthwise, pat dry with a paper towel, season with salt & pepper, and set aside.

Our new cat seems to be settling in.  After spending no little time behind the stove, he was finally persuaded to visit the larger world, and has been more friendly and outgoing as the days pass.  Last night he actually got up on the bed for awhile, though his favorite place still seems to be one of Sophie's shelves in the closet.
