So a couple of weeks ago I fell hard on my knees. It took a couple days to recover from the various pains involved, but I'm largely better, except ( Read more... )

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that...

I hurt my knee once while in Ireland--no idea how (though I was doing a lot of walking, and knelt sort of weird at one point), but the person I saw about it said that she used to see injuries like that all the time in rugby and soccer players. It took four weeks of one-weekly physiotherapy sessions to get back to normal for me; she used massage, some sort of laser thing, and also an ultrasound device, and all of them worked really well, and started to help almost immediately. If it is possible for you to see someone like that, those deep beneath-the-kneecap injuries are well handled by such people...

That sounds awfully complicated.

If four weeks isn't an unreasonable healing time, I'm inclined to think it's doing fine on its own at this rate.

I'm not unhappy with how it's healing unless the slowness is a sign that something is actually broken or somesuch.

If it's just "these things take time" then I have no complaints.

Good to know.

Yeah, if the pain shifts, increases, or just lingers indefinitely I'll get it checked out.

For now it feels like it's healing just fine, I just wasn't sure if this was an abnormal amount of time for healing to take. Apparently it's not, so everything is ok.

When I bruised my ribs the first time...*shudder* it took almost a year for them to feel absolutely normal.

The first month was very painful (I couldn't be touched much at all), and after that I would forget until something would touch them lightly, or not so lightly, and finally they just hurt when the Kitties would stand on them, then...nothing.

Is this a bad sign? Is this a sign of actual damage? May I have torn muscle or chipped bone or something? Or is it just that it takes a bit longer to heal when you bruise that deeply?

Both. You should get it checked out.

The thing is, if this isn't an abnormal length of time for healing, then my instincts and my sense of how me knee is healing is that things are fine, they're just slow.

So if this isn't an abnormal healing time, I don't really thing anything is wrong.

But yeah, I'm inclined to get it checked out if it's taking an abnormally long time to heal.

The knee is a very delicate piece of your body. It could be normal for what you did; it might not be. None of us are doctors and can say for sure.

What I do know is that if the bruise was that deep, and it was on a joint, then there's a good chance you should see a doctor.

If you're vacillating whether you should see one, then you should see one. I've had knee injuries in the past. Generally nothing but bad things happen if you don't take care of them properly up front.

Mrrr.

Okay. I don't have a lot of time for this, but I guess it can't hurt to schedule something.

Knee injuries are (excuse the pun) a real pain. They can take a long time to heal and sometimes they're never quite the same. I fell and hurt my knee pretty badly back in July. Nothing was damaged but I was in serious pain. I was off the crutches and hobbling around after a few days (I bounce back quickly) but there's still twinges of pain when walking or going up and down stairs. If you're having trouble getting around then yeah, it might be time to see a doctor, but to my highly-uneducated-about-knee-injuries mind I think you're still in the painful, drawn out healing process. *hugs* Feel better soon.

(Oh, and I don't think I'll be able to make it out to see you. I need to spend time catching up on homework today and I've got plans in place for tomorrow. It won't be long before I'm out again so maybe then. :) )

It's ok. My life has gotten pretty crazy too, and it's midterms time, though I have assignments, not tests to study for.

*hugs* Next time, perhaps!
