I almost ended up teaching here. I'm pretty glad I won't be working for a "bozo". (the article doesn't mention it, but she's going to college on a full ride, too

oh my goodness - is this the charter school? tracie's boyfriend is going to be the IT person there! he just got the job, too, and they moved down to ny because of it. how cool!
it's not a charter school -- fellows aren't allowed to teach in charter schools. it's a public school, partially funded by the Bill Gates money and New Visions -- it's part of this movement to break up huge high schools into smaller ones.
There's also the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction in Manhattan that is opening in the fall, but it's not charter either.
I don't know of any charter schools opening this year -- they are pretty separate from us.
hmm... interesting. I could be wrong about the charter thing. Wayne's working at a new school in Williamsburg, only 9th graders, and every kid gets a laptop and his job is to figure out all of the computer stuff. Whether it's the same school or not, both sound awesome and should be lots of fun :)
there are 4 new (non-charter) schools opening in Brooklyn in the fall that will only have 9th graders, and two of them are in Williamsburg: my school, and Williamsburg Prep. my school and W'burg Prep are in the same building (both are housed in Van Arsdale High School, which is huge and being phased out). I haven't heard anything about all our kids getting laptops, but we're having our first faculty meeting on Thursday. Laptops does sound like something Kathleen would do (she's the principal of the Prep).
it's completely possible there are some charter schools opening there too -- I just wouldn't know about them.
yes, and I am a horrible big sister b/c I've been meaning to call you guys for weeks and let you know. But I am a slacker and don't call anyone anymore. Are you going to be around? I'm staying in Arlington.
Sorry I never called again on Sunday -- after my friend left I was just SO exhausted and the last thing I wanted to do was throw myself into a huge crowd of people. Next year!
Hey, congrats on the job. I logged into IM to say hello to you, but then I got absorbed in work stuff and by the time I had regained control of my soul, you had logged off. Alas.
If we don't talk before we both leave for our respective weekends, enjoy DC and all the exciting people you see!
