Hank III

Dec 08, 2008 10:18

I'm obsessed.

Truly.

I'm digging his whole catalog.

He started out in '99 straight up country and western and has now developed into a hybrid of that and metal.

Obsessed.

Truly.

Get the new album.

I think my dad saw him live a few years back.

He does a rebel outlaw country set, and then takes off the cowboy hat and plays punk for the rest of the time. Mohawk and Dead Kennedies shirts proudly displayed.

He looks and sounds more like his grandpa (Hank Williams, SR.) than JR. ever did. I think he's also a truer rebel as well.

Thenew album is a mixture of Hank Sr. type music and borderline metal.

It's fucking phenomenal.

I had the pleasure of seeing him live last year in a slightly bigger than The Globe sized venue. It ruled.

You know he was in Superjoint Ritual for a while, right?

This video gives gets me going.

He's also bros with Danzig.

There's just something about country and punk rebels.

Check out this bit on Dwight Yoakam [via: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwight_Yoakam]

Not making much headway in Nashville, Yoakam moved to Los Angeles. Yoakam's vision of bringing traditional, Honky Tonk or "Hillbilly" music (as he himself called it) forward into the 1980s wasn't fully realized until he teamed up with lead guitarist and Producer Pete Anderson.

[...]

Continuing to perform mostly outside traditional country music channels, Yoakam did many shows in Rock and Punk clubs around Los Angeles, playing with roots rock or punk rock acts like The Blasters (Yoakam scored a small hit with his version of their song "Long White Cadillac"), Los Lobos, and X. This helped him diversify his audience well beyond the typical Country music fans; at many of his shows you would see mohawked and leather-clad Punks alongside Rock & Rollers, as well as the typical cowboy-shirt wearing Country crowd.

You'll love this.

This is the first track off of Straight to Hell...which is the album that got me into Hank3.

Get on er!

He's going to tour soon.

Maybe you should come out and visit Kris and I when he plays SF.

I'll be looking for someone to go with.
