So my divorce "Case Management Conference" is scheduled for 12/24/09.  I need to reschedule it, hopefully I can get 01/07/10.  So I guess what ACTUALLY happens is that you don't get your conference until 6months and 1 day after filing for divorce.  THEN they start the process.  The conference thing is to make sure you have all your paperwork and ( Read more... )

I have heard this from other people doing divorces as well. It's not an uncommon thing. Just make sure you have your paperwork done and as the day approaches, maybe sent a brief reminder that he should as well. I know more than one divorce that has taken longer than necessary because among all the daily thing to do in life, one party or the other forgot to do something.

LOL, that's how I feel about my mom being on FB. It's super exciting! And most of the stuff that she sees on there she already knows anyways! :-P

I have (somewhere) the Nolo Press "Do Your Own Divorce" book. It was very helpful when we did ours.

I'm curious about the timing on your divorce, because what you posted sounds wrong to me. They shouldnt' be making you wait more than 6 months for your divorce to go final.

Esp. since finishing it before the end of the year would mean you could file your 2009 taxes separately, and getting it filed after 12/31/09 means you're stuck filing jointly (or married filing separately) for 2009.

Which would cost you money. :-(

Do you have it written somewhere that one shouldn't have to wait 6 months and 1 day for the hearings to begin?
