Last night after finishing the first of the Sookie Stackhouse novels I started the next one, Living Dead in Dallas. Although I just got about 10 pages into it before I was tired enough to go to bed, that was definitely not a reflection on the book at all, only on the hour of night. So, I finally finished reading the Jungle. It wasn't exactly what I expected, as I had heard from several people that it was about turn of the century slaughter houses, but it was about so much more. So, I'm still reading The Jungle, and it probably would go faster if I didn't have so many distractions, for example a new kitten, to interfere with my precious reading time. Over Christmas break I read 5 books. They were all great, but nothing from my list. I'm am only now reading my third book from the list, the Jungle. I'm about 100 pages in and loving is so far. The past couple of mornings I've been getting up early to start running again and I can't believe how much I've missed running in the snow. With just a small dusting of snow and the crisp cold air, it's been amazing and so much better than running on a treadmill or on the track. I finished a tree grows in Brooklyn yesterday.  It was a really great story with a lot of social commentary about poverty, politics, and perseverance that I feel is still relevant in today's society.  It is something I would recommend for anyone, especially any young woman.  I loved Francies insights, her spirit and her passion for life.  She is a ( Read more... )

Today was incredibly rainy and I decided to start at the end of my list with a Tree Grows in Brooklyn.  So far I've enjoyed it.  I'm jealous of Francie's reading capabilities.  Being only eleven years old, she accomplishes the impossible task, at least in my eyes, of reading a book a day alphabetically, "and not skipping the dry ones."  Of course ( Read more... )
