We went to Everest Properties to look ask about a listing for 2322 Shattuck (the Berkeley Symphony apartment building, listed on the NRHP, and a building that caught my eye on my first visit to Max), but the keys were out with someone else, and we checked out 2033 Haste instead. It's closer to Maddy, and on first look seemed a little shady. ( Read more... )

How big a dining table do you need. And does it need to be that size all the time (just for meals or company, or also for work desk?)

In other words: Ikea style folding tables? Or if you could move it, credenza that pulls out?

The IKEA style would likely be better, and easier to move.

Lol actually, we already have two dining tables... both of which are a decent size for our dining and gaming needs. since we aren't planning on getting a tv, I think we'll probably slide the table up against the wall when company isn't over, and just have a creatively combined living/ dining area. Funny, though - we have two tables and no couch. There *will* be a trip to Ikea at some point :)

Ugh. We have so much stuff to go through before we move :(

You know there's an IKEA in Emeryville, next door to Berzerkeley -- I suggest buying AFTER you move, instead of lugging new furniture down from West Sac!

Adam and I have a combined living/dining area; it would work great if we didn't have to worry about the kids! Small can be very cozy.

Oh heck yeah. I've even been to the one in Emeryville before, we drove out there from Roseville to pick up some stuff once. :)
