Yesterday the power cord for my MacBook Pro broke. This is the second one in about a year. It was getting a bit loose and Wm pulled at it and that was once too often. So we hit the Apple store. No, they don't have one. Nor do any of the other Apple stores in the Seattle area. Nor do any of the non-Apple major mac dealerships. And the online Apple ( Read more... )

How about one of those gourmet universal power cords?

Hm. The macbook has this peculiar magnetic plug thingy, I'm not sure if those are available much elsewhere. I will look around.

Hm. My model number's not listed, and the other macbook pro model number's tip is out of stock.

Shiseido makes some awesome nail polishes with (I believe) mica. It's not glittery with big flakes of aluminum or whatever like a metal-flake paint job; it's very subtle. But still awesome.

I got three different little bottles of the Sephora house brand (at $4 a pop, which is good since normal sized bottles of nail polish tend to dry out before I use them). One is pretty similar to what I imagine from your description, just kind of shimmery until the light hits it just so. The other two are a bit larger-flaked, but still on the subtle-ish side. I tend to keep my nails absurdly short, so anything that's not subtle tends to look kind of dorky.

Apple's power cords are crap. In the 4 years I've owned my powerbook, I've gone through 4 cords, just through normal wear and tear. I finally did some research and ordered and much cheaper and more reliable replacement chord and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend powerbookmedic.com. I've ordered several things from them (batteries, key caps, chords for myself and Mr. Spy, who has a macbook) and they've always been inexpensive, fast, and reliable. Check it out and see if they have what you need. Good luck! Or if worse comes to worst, you could order a battery recharger.

er, not "chord" but "cord." Too much music on the brain. D'oh!

That said - in the four years I owned my iBook, I never had one speck of trouble with the original cord, nor has my brother, who owns it now, had any.

I think iBook and Powerbooks use the same power cord, or at least similar ones. And now that you mention it, my husband has not had the same problems with his iBook powercord. I'm wondering, though, if it may have something to do with where the cord jack is located on the machine. His is on the back. Mine is on the side and it's forever getting twisted around to be in the right place for the outlet. But also, in the old days, Apple's customer service was outstanding, probably better than it needed to be. If you had a problem, even if the machine was old, they'd fix it or replace it. They abandon dated technology a lot faster now.

Oh, I KNOW! HG works with a guy who is a part-time Apple rep, and I am having a devil of a time finding a spare even through sneaky back channels. I didn't know they were redesigning it.
