Madrona musings

Registration for the Madrona Fiber Arts winter retreat starts this Monday morning. kathrynt have decided we really want to do class(es) this year. Of course many I want to take are offered at the same time, and I don't think I can realistically do four full days of classes, so I'm dithering a lot.
Behind the cut, nattering about which ones. )

If I go, maybe we can trade off between the three of us? I'm interested in the same classes as you are or maybe the Janine Bajus class. I don't think I am physically capable of being immersed in so much knitting but I would like to go maybe a couple days.

Keith has already asked if I'm going so maybe I have babysitting available but I like the idea of trading off.

We have a hope of getting all the way away from the babies for a day or two, but we could probably figure out some group kid switchoff thing for other parts of the long weekend. I'm pretty sure we can't leave the kids for four entire days. We were thinking of staying in the hotel for a couple of the nights, maybe.

Um... wow... is this a you and kathrynt "us time" thing, or would you all mind if the interloping Midwesterner poked her nose in? *goes back to staring at class schedule*

This is a "some time away from the babies and with yarn and yarny people" thing, interloping Midwesterners welcome. There is also waaaaayyyy too much tempting shopping, so if you come, bring an empty suitcase. I will point out that it's Valentine's day weekend if "first Valentine's day with new husband" is important.

So many of the classes look so good! Hopefully the registration UI will be better this year, too...

What do you think of the Jean Wong "Tailored Knitting" Th/Fri class? I don't know anything about her as a teacher, is the thing, but a really intensive sweater-fitting class sounds useful; it feels as though it's hard to get a sweater to fit me right.

Or, there's Brunner's "Make It Fit!" but the description doesn't specify whether students will learn information pertinent to them in particular or just a more general sense. And Wong's doesn't say whether it addresses the wonky body parts either, but given that it's two days, surely it must...

I don't know anything about her, either. Pat Brunner I've run into on various mailing lists and she seems to be pretty knowledgeable about fit.

Thanks! Seems like either way it might go okay...

And in the meantime, how exciting that you'll get to go for an actual class! It was great running into you at the market last year; hopefully we'll have a little longer this time around, and maybe you'll even show off your fabulous bison/etc. handgear, if all goes well and the creek don't rise? ;)

Ooh, shiny!

Do you know how often these things run? I don't want to prioritize yarn over A on Valentine's Day, but I do want to go to something like this at some point. Classes I could learn from! (Portland-area classes run more along the lines of my-first-hat, which, while helpful for many, are not what I'm interested in. I don't think I've seen any local classes that I'm not capable of *teaching*.)
