I'm going to preface this by saying that it was chucking it down with rain most of the day, so a lot of the photos were taken through raindrop splattered glass. I hope you guys enjoy them anyway.
Yay and yay! I like being right! I know the sheep/goat thing has horns, but you're right it is too chunky to be a goat! My parents don't appear to understand the concept of "rare-breed" sheep i.e. ones that are a different breed from the 'normal' sheep like the one on the right of the photo.
I really wasn't expecting to be able to get that close to the lemurs, so I was so happy when we did. The keeper said that they don't keep ringtailed lemurs there any more because they're not as rare (I think she means rare in captivity) as the others and they wanted to focus on the red ruffed ones especially since they had a successful breeding program going with them. I really like the smaller primates (big monkeys scare me *blush*), which is one of the reasons I was determined to see the lemurs. I love them even more now having met them! Some zoos/safari parks over here will let you pay to spend time with lemurs and hand-feed them. I'm sure it costs some ridiculous amount though.
How cute!!!! I would love to go there. Except the lemurs freak me out. I had a bad dream once that they were giant and they were chasing me through the woods.
That dream sounds scary! Lemurs can be quite territorial and vicious believe it or not, although I think that's mainly when they're in family groups. Also the females are dominant for most lemur breeds and all the ones in the photos were males, so I think they were a little more chilled.
Do you guys have similar zoos and safari parks in the US? I know I've seen UK and Australian ones on TV, and I've seen various animal conservation projects on TV too, but I don't remember seeing US ones. I'm sure I have but I'm just curious to know if they're similar or not.
Oh yeah and these were giant tall lemurs too that were chasing me. They had to be like 12 feet tall or something. And they had scary yellow eyes.
As far as I know we don't have any safari parks like what you went to. The closest thing that comes to mind is Bush Gardens which is near Walt Disney World but their safari is like a trolley that's all fenced off from the animals. The only animal I've ever had a chance to pet is a sheep, goat and horse. We have petting zoos which are mostly farm animals like those. I guess maybe a pig depending on where you go. But there may be other places that I don't know about.
i love giraffes just because they don't look like they should work but they do, seeing a bear would terrify me in person but from the safe distance of many many miles i feel able to say wouldn't they be great at giving hugs :)
I wouldn't worry about them scaring you, your talking to the girl who got stuck half way through a field because of bulls(they do a grazing program by me)....one decided i looked interesting and wanted to get closer, i ended up being saved by an eight year old boy n his dad who seemed to know clapping makes them move...wasn't i embarrassed especially when i discovered they weren't even coming my way
Lol, well I was wearing a bright red raincoat so that was probably quite attractive to the lemurs or something!
Giraffes are cool, but every time I see them I wonder how on earth they evolved to be like they are. Nature is amazing sometimes. Bears remind me of the toy bears that were around when I was a kid that looks like cute colourful bears to start with, but you could peal back their heads to reveal an evil bear inside. They always used to creep me out!
Bulls would terrify me because they can do a fair bit of damage if they're really really pissed off. When I did the Duke of Edinburgh expedition with people (I did it to make up the numbers cos I'm nice/mad like that), the 3 other people I was with were scared of cows. Do you know how many fields of cows we encountered on a 35 mile / 3 day walk?! I'm not the biggest fan of cows, but as long as they're not running at me then I'm not so bothered. Anything that is bigger than me deserves a certain amount of respect I think. and *hugs*
Scared of cows?? They should come here and go "Cow Tipping". I've only ever heard of that though and don't know anyone who has done it personally. Because cows sleep standing up - people push them over while they're sleeping. But I've heard it's kind of hard (because of their size) and you have to make sure that they don't wake up or they chase you.
The idea of those bears creep me out, so eek!i'm glad i just had the non scary ones when i was little/now :p
I can imagine, so many people seem scared of them, the cows i mean, i think i found someone scared of sheep other day...which to me is just purely impossible, strange people, strange world me thinks

I'm voting sheep, too. It's a bit too chunky to be a goat, innit?
Also, omg, you got to be that close to lemurs!? Envyyyyy. I adore lemurs, especially ringtailed lemurs. <3
Great pictures!
