IT'S SO WEIRD I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT IN A WAY THAT IS NOT CONFUSING. *tries (ETA: in extremely spoilery fashion, obviously)*
So Olivia met Peter right after he was stolen, according to the preview. Eight year-old her (?) could shift between universes then too. Angry Peter wants to go home, Olivia's a way of getting him there. PREVIEW TELLS ME THEY ARE DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER. LEFT TURN AT ALBUQUERQUE CRAZYTOWN.
So, obviously what I am choosing to focus on is what the hell happened to get Olivia, she of the eidetic memory, to forget pretty much everything that happened to her. Which is probably Walter and some Fringe science shenanigans, but whatever. Coping mechanism, so I don't think too much about how even Olivia's backstory is retroactively becoming more about Peter. D:
Also, OMG, YOU NOW HAVE A FANNISH HEADER! AND YOU ARE FUN TO MAKE STUFF FOR. <3
OMFG, is she going to somehow FORGET ALL THIS HAPPENED and either only remember she loves Peter--having forgotten Altlivia and the breakup--or fall in love with Peter all over again--fresh start!
I realized I had left out the crucial word FLASHBACK and so added it! Because I thought that's what you probably were thinking. ;)
I just never understand why shows, if they must go with the romance for the leads, seem to think it has to be some Big Epic Destiny instead of just a choice two people make.Right? I'm struggling to figure out why the Big Epic Destiny at all. I HAD assumed the main arc of the whole thing was going about the choices people make and the consequences, and that the smoke and mirrors destiny shit would sort of take a backseat to the characters in the end. Which they've never done well with Peter, but usually with Olivia and Walter. And there's more than enough there to pull a whole altverse arc out of

Because Olivia remains stubbornly in character (even if she has terrible taste in men), I mean, with a couple of wobbles, even in THIS damn episode.
Skipping to this for agreement, because damn, there were a couple of times where I started to get annoyed because I thought, "Olivia wouldn't think like....except for how she does. Oh" Like, Peter's line about who's holding them back now, played very sleazy and the opposite of how he's actually been more or less careful to not make it about him with her up until now, but the conversation later where she recognizes her fear is very Olivia Dunham...and I can't argue with that. If it's forced, it's at least from the narrative and not put on her by any character within the show? It's at least about her choices?
If you want to talk about loving some stuff and wanting other stuff to DIAF, try this interview: o_O

The Peter line is just a perfect example. Cus what he says is gross because of how he frames it - "yes, she's the one who took it away, but you're the one who's keeping it away," or whatever he said. But what the episode appears to have meant was, "yes, she's the one who took it away, but you're the one who gets to decide if you're going to keep it away," which is a fucking WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Because one is about how she's doing something wrong and the other is about how she has power. So like, why not just have him say that in the first place? *throws up hands*
I am a little relieved I'm not the only one who kept watching and wanting to punch Peter and also being like...but how can I root for Olivia to demonstrate this level of bravery and perseverance in all areas except her love life? And I know the answer. The answer is that I think there are two things going on here - the issues of her own fears and issues over her own identity, which I think they're handling well, and the issues of

The preview kind of amused me. But hey, I'm still in season 2-land. I've learned not to do mental gymnastics with previews. I do have to say I have liked the eps with Peter and Olivia as children individually so I'm kind of looking forward to the episode.
I'm ignoring the word 'destiny'. It makes me giggle, too. I imagine some show writer scratching his head right now saying, "We didn't ever say the word destiny! Those voiceover guys!"
At least that's what I hope the show writers are saying. Hmm.
It's a little funnier this more. And it would probably be more so if I wasn't all SHOOOOWWWW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME. Damn investment. ;)
beccatoria linked me to an interview above where they DO use the word 'destiny', but it's a little unclear if they're sort of dodging around info, really. And I liked those episodes too.

I'm in real time with Fringe. I haven't seen season 3 other than last night's ep. It took me a long, long time to view season 2 mostly just trying to obtain the episodes without buying them or downloading them. I'll try to catch up with season 3 but not too hard. I'm just jumping in. There are about eight more episodes left to the season and I feel watching two seasons has caught me up enough.
